Provers 4:23 teaches we should guard our heart for out of it flows the springs of life. If out of the longings of our heart springs our activity, what do these statistics say about our heart?
US mobile subscribers averaged 357 text messages/month in 2008. That’s a 450% increase from the 65/month back in 2006. The surge in text messaging is being driven by the 13 to 17 year olds, who average 1742 texts/month. – CBS News
What do you make of this insatiable need for connection and identity? Is it just another aspect of our consumption mentality? Could we better understand these needs, help people connect their longings to deeper purposes in life, and help them move beyond mere consumption and into transforming our communities?
Leadership consultant Marcus Buckingham shares this challenge:
“Clarity is the occupation of the effective leader”
If so, its our responsibility as leaders in our homes, businesses, and churches to clearly connect the longings of those around us with a deeper, transformational purpose.
At our January 29th Pastors Lunch we will more fully explore your congregation’s longings, ponder how to refresh and ensure your church’s vision is transformational, and discover ways to tightly connect the longings of your congregation to that transformational vision. In doing so, you will be laying the foundation for deeper collaboration, purpose, and transformation for them and your ministry. And we may help them escape this consumption trap many have stumbled into.
