We spend a lot of our life laboring day after day without seeing many results. We wonder if it matters…if we matter. Do we have a destiny worth living for?
At our annual Aspen Group appreciation dinner last night I was talking about this very thing. I was hoping for a strong finish with this inspiring video on “Destiny” by pastor Erwin McManus. Unfortunately, our laptop locked up. So Aspenites, as promised, here it is.
Erwin challenges us with these thoughts:
There’s a future God created you to be a part of creating. But…it takes courage to create it.
We are all born no ordinary child. Everybody matters to God. And He is inviting us into the bigness of who He is.
The challenge is…if you listen carefully it will terrify you. You’ll wonder if he’s confused you with someone else.
We’ve been born for great things. But it’s an invitation, not an obligation.
He has called us to dream big and live large. And he will help us see beyond our wildest imagination and give us courage to live that life out.

I am a huge fan of Erwin because he communicates in such a provocative manner, challenging his listener to step outside of himself – to see things as God sees them.
As I was watching this video, the thought that consumed me was how God calls us to “be still” and listen for Him as He whispers to us through his creation, and yet we live in a media filled culture/society that is constantly screaming at us to get on board – to keep up – to fit in. God’s path requires discipline and humility, while success in the world is measured by instant gratification and pride. In our ego driven society, it’s easy to lose your course and feel as though you don’t matter. Erwin does a great job of bringing God’s plan – destiny for our lives back into perspective through this video.
I really apprecited your comments last night. In the midst of getting up to speed with a new job, it has been very interesting to see how each member of the team contributes, and really matters. I’m looking forward to many years of success.
Tim,
Thanks for your thoughts and take on Erwin. He does stir me when he talks.
I like your reminder that disciple and humility are some of the keys to discovering God’s path. And that path does include all of us as Paul made clear in I Cor 12.
Thanks again for sharing.
Kudos, Ed!
I believe McManus is the closest thing we have to a modern day prophet. Calling the church of America to consider what it really means to live as a Christian.
Good stuff!
Bryce,
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate his ability to so powerfully capture the essence of these issues as well.
I agree…good stuff!
Ed
